Ch 6

In this chapter we analyze the world as a whole. Agriculural revolutions have created civilized and complex societys. Humans are distributed around globe very unevenly. Some groups far more civilized and progessive than others. Most cultures had developed writing and languauges but each varied depending on the region. The Americas continued to stay isolated while the other part of the world had many people migrating with records we can use for a clearer picture.

Culture and Religion in Eurasia/North Africa This chapter recognizes the leading religions of the world and their origins in human history. Around 500 B.C.E. these religions started to emerge in China, India, the Middle East, and Greece. Over hundreds of years humans have structured our societies and laws around these moral obligations provided by these religions. Confucianism and Daoism from China, Hinuism and Buddhism from India, in the Middle East Islam and Christianity each stem from a form of judaism, and in Greece philosophers including plato, socrates, and aristotle introduced rationalism.

ch 3

State and Empire in Eurasia/North Africa 500 B.C.E-500 C.E. In this era it reveals that empires had risen and fallen regularly. Everything in civilization was basically in a plateau where no new innovations, (after the agricultural revolution) were being made or discovered. Empires and states looked to conquer one another. The population of humans began to grow. "Wisdom traditions" were brought to light in this time era too. These are confucianism, daoism, hinduism, buddhism, ratianolism, judaism, islam and christianity. All originating from either china, india or the middle east. Slaves were common in these civilizations. A theme for this chapter is what makes up an empire? The answer is that it is a series of states that coercively work together with agriculture, business' and a military to conquer foreign states/land to provide for the empire.
